Almost every government filing — company registration, GST, income tax, tenders — needs documents signed digitally. That's what a Digital Signature Certificate (DSC) is for: your legally valid electronic signature.
What a DSC does
It cryptographically proves that a document was signed by you and hasn't been tampered with. It carries the same legal standing as a handwritten signature for online filings.
Who needs one
- Directors and designated partners (for MCA filings).
- Businesses filing GST, income tax and TDS returns.
- Anyone bidding on government tenders (GeM, e-procurement).
- Professionals certifying filings.
Classes of DSC
The commonly used one today is Class 3, used for most business and tender filings. It's issued after identity verification and is valid for a fixed period before renewal.
If you're registering a company or filing returns, a DSC is a small, one-time setup that unlocks everything else. Get it early.
