The biggest myth in small-business finance is that you need property to pledge before a bank will lend to you. Two government-backed schemes exist precisely to break that barrier: Mudra and CGTMSE.
Mudra loans
Under the Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana, small and micro businesses can get collateral-free loans in tiers — Shishu (smallest), Kishore, Tarun and Tarun Plus (largest). They're aimed at manufacturing, trading and service micro-units, and are routed through banks, NBFCs and MFIs.
CGTMSE
The Credit Guarantee Fund Trust for Micro and Small Enterprises (CGTMSE) doesn't lend directly — it guarantees the bank's loan to you. Because the government backs a large part of the risk, banks lend to MSMEs without demanding collateral up to a substantial limit.
What lenders want to see
- A clear business purpose and a simple, realistic plan.
- Basic KYC, business registration and (ideally) Udyam registration.
- Bank statements and, where available, GST/ITR filings showing activity.
- Clean books — this is what turns a "maybe" into a "yes".
How to improve your chances
Register on Udyam, keep your accounts and GST filings up to date, and prepare a tidy one-page business summary. A lender-ready file — not property — is what unlocks these loans. If the paperwork feels daunting, that's exactly the part we help with.
